Why is everybody so worked up about Donald Trump's Twitter account?

A ridiculous trend I’ve noticed among the public recently is how worked up everybody is over Donald Trump’s Twitter account. Yeah, a Twitter accountfor cryin' out loud. Freaking seriously? It’s just Twitter. It means nothing.

Why is everybody so worked up over his Twitter account? All it is is a direct, unmediated source of his thoughts and opinions, viewable on a global scale. It’s just the internet. It’s not that big of a deal!

His tweets are only the thoughts and words of a 71-year-old reality TV star who rose to fame in large part for his unpredictable and bombastic behavior (who also just happens to represent the United States at its very highest level) which anyone, literally anybody with internet access, including the leaders of hostile nations, can read at any time, anywhere.

Why is everybody so worked up over his Twitter account? All it is is a direct, unmediated source of his thoughts and opinions, viewable on a global scale.

It’s so dumb to worry about Donald Trump's Twitter account, which, by the way, now serves as the official word of the office of the President of the United States, commander-in-chief of the world’s most expensive military.

It's downright silly to concern yourself with how Trump uses his Twitter, a globally-read medium, as a way to immediately propel his unfiltered thoughts to 32.1 million people, where it is then shared to an even larger audience, and undoubtedly scrutinized down to the word by every national leader in the world.

It’s called freedom of speech. Ever heard of it? Why shouldn’t the leader of one of the world’s most influential countries be able to say anything he wants whenever he wants, especially when it comes to intricate diplomacy and needlessly antagonizing and raising tensions with countries that are practically drooling for any reason to send a nuclear missile into our borders? It’s just Twitter for crying out loud! Who cares?

Don’t worry that a perpetually disgruntled man, who has been handed everything in his life and holds what is widely considered to be the most powerful position in the world despite having no prior political career, is provoked at the drop of a hat and has an insanely popular microblog where he freely posts his unedited thoughts and opinions instantly without a care or understanding of the implications or consequences. It’s just the internet.

It isn't like the internet has evolved well past what it once was into the standard for all of communication or anything. And it certainly is not as if anything that happens on the internet bears any consequence in real life. There is definitely a firm divide between these two ideas, and they have for sure not merged in any way over the course of the internet's existence.

I stand with Trump’s Twitter account and his freedom to use it. After all, it's just the internet. What harm could it possibly do?
