80kg python is family's pet, as toddler rides it like a horse

A video has emerged showing a three year old boy riding a 20-foot-long python in floodwaters.

According to the Daily Mail, the snake is a family pet, kept in their home in Thanh Hoa province in northern Vietnam.

Footage shows the boy sitting on the snake and "riding" it, the same way you would a horse.

The boy's aunt, An Nguyen, dispelled rumours that the footage was fake and told the Daily Mailthat the family have had the python for four years as a pet.

"The python is 80kg...and very gentle. It was a rainy day and the water flooded to the edge of the yard. So they put the python in there to play and relax," she said.

Vietnam has been hit by heavy floods which have killed some 72 people, according to the country's disaster prevention agency.

Thousands of houses have been submerged and more than 22,000 hectares (54,300 acres) of rice fields left destroyed.

Tropical Typhoon Kanun, which has made landfall in Southern China, is expected to make its way to Vietnam and could bring heavier rains to the region.
